According to data released on the 22nd, by Associação Brasileira dos Produtores de Algodão [Brazilian Association of Cotton Producers] (Abrapa), Brazilian cotton production in the 2021/2022 harvest will increase by 19.6% compared to the previous cycle. Production is expected to reach 2.82 million tons and growth is estimated to be linked to high productivity and recovery of about 1.579 million hectares, representing 15.2% of the territory.
By February this year, 1,258 million tons of cotton were exported, according to Associação Nacional de Exportadores de Algodão [Brazilian Association of Cotton Exporters] (Anea). The current harvest, which started in July 2021, should end with 1,742 million tons shipped, with the main buyers being China, Vietnam and Turkey.
