In line with the early start of soy sown in the 2021/22 harvest, the projection for the 2nd cotton harvest cultivation window, considered valid until January 31, shows that 82% more of the areas estimated for planting can be used in Mato Grosso. Sowing within the ideal period reduces the threat of lost productivity. Positive examples of this are the 2018/19 and 2019/20 harvests, which showed higher yields. The data was given by Instituto Mato-grossense de Economia Agropecuária (IMEA).
According to IMEA´s weekly cotton bulletin, the cotton grower is optimistic about the next cotton harvest and as the future plume price is attractive, the decision to sow this fiber is more favorable. On the other hand, competition for area in the “off-season”, due to the appreciation of corn, may still be a factor in the producer’s decision to sow cotton in some regions, which will be better assessed in the next estimates for the 2021/22 harvest” .
